How we verify
Illinois Roofer Check is compiled from public records, not from who paid to be listed.
Sources
- IDFPR Professional Licensing dataset (pzzh-kp68) — Every license IDFPR issues: type, status, original issue, effective and expiry dates, city, ZIP, county and disciplinary actions (case, action, dates, reason).
- IDFPR License Look-Up — The state's own lookup. Use it before you sign.
- Roofing Industry Licensing Act (225 ILCS 335) — Licensing, limited and unlimited licenses, bond, insurance, contract terms and grounds for discipline.
Every week we query the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's public licensing dataset (pzzh-kp68 on the State of Illinois data portal) for roofing contractor licenses of the type "Licensed Roofing Contractor" held by businesses, with status Active. We keep licenses whose expiry date has not passed and that are based in Illinois or a bordering state (Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Kentucky). Individual qualifying-party credentials are not listed.
The dataset has one row per disciplinary case, so we group rows by license number. License type (limited or unlimited), original issue date, expiry, city, ZIP and county are shown as IDFPR publishes them. "Licensed since" is IDFPR's original issue date.
Disciplinary entries (date, action, end date, case number and reason) are shown exactly as IDFPR records them, and a license with any entry carries a "discipline on record" label. We do not rank, score or interpret them, and an entry does not mean the license is restricted today. Order within a city: longest-licensed first, then alphabetical. Discipline does not change the order.
IDFPR's file has no street address, phone, bond or insurance details. The bond shown on a profile is the amount the Roofing Industry Licensing Act requires for that license type, not a document we have seen. We never mark a business as unlicensed: a roofer missing here may be based further away, newly licensed or renewed after our last refresh. Check IDFPR License Look-Up for any roofer.
Featured roofers appear in a separate, labelled box and never change the order of the list.
What a badge means
Illinois-licensed: the company's roofing contractor license appears in the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) licensing file with status Active and an expiry date that had not passed on the date shown. We only publish positive matches. A listing without a badge is not an accusation — most gaps are name variations between registries.
Freshness
Data was last refreshed on 2026-10-16. IDFPR updates its licensing dataset daily; we re-pull it every week.
